Marking Period 1:

 

Week One:

Literary text: adventure, comparison of characters, settings, or events, text structure, narrator or speaker’s point of view

Language – Vocabulary:  collaborative discussions, academic & content specific vocabulary

Narrative: ideas -establish a situation, introduce characters, short composition

Language: verb tense

 

Week Two: 

Literary text: adventure, comparison of characters, settings, or events, text structure, contribution of multimedia elements

Language – Vocabulary: figurative language & word relationships, homographs, academic & content specific vocabulary

Narrative: organization -descriptive details, character’s response, transitional words, short composition

Language: dialect

 

Week Three:

Literary text: adventure, themes in literature, use of quotes when inferring, contribution of multimedia elements

Language – Vocabulary: collaborative discussions, academic & content specific vocabulary

Narrative:  organization, word choice – descriptive details, develop experiences, conclusion, short composition

Language: comma to separate an introductory element

 

Week Four:

Literary text: traditional stories, themes in literature, use of quotes when inferring, meaning of words

Language – Vocabulary: collaborative discussions, academic & content specific

Informative: ideas, organization - introduce topic, group related information logically, extended writing

Speaking & listening: report on a topic

Language: commas

 

Week Five:

Literary text: traditional stories,comparison of texts in same genre, narrator or speaker’s point of view

Language – Vocabulary: summary of speaker’s point of view, academic & content specific vocabulary

Informative: ideas, organization – develop the topic, domain-specific vocabulary, formatting

Language: punctuation to separate items in a series

 

Week Six:

Informational text:  use of quotes when inferring, analysis of multiple accounts on same topic noting point of view

Language – Vocabulary: summary of speaker’s point of view, meaning from context, academic & content specific vocabulary

Informative: ideas, sentence fluency - examples related to the topic, conclusion, extended writing

Language: consult references

 

Week Seven:

Informational text: main idea & key details, relationships among individuals, events, ideas, or concepts, analysis of multiple

accounts on same topic noting point of view, integration of information from texts on same topic

Language – Vocabulary: academic & content specific vocabulary

Opinion: ideas, organization – state the opinion, logically order reasons, extended writing

Language: expand, combine reduce sentences

 

Week Eight:

Informational text: comparison of structure in texts, information location in multiple resources

Language – Vocabulary: collaborative discussions, reference materials, academic & content specific vocabulary

Opinion: organization, word choice – link opinion & reasons, conclusion, extended writing

Speaking & listening: multimedia  components, visual displays,

Language: interjections

 

Week Nine:

Informational text: use of quotes when inferring, relationships among individuals, events, ideas, or concepts,

Language – Vocabulary: collaborative discussions, summary of oral & visual information, academic & content specific vocabulary

Opinion: presentation – conclusion, extended writing

Speaking & Listening: report on a topic, adapt speech to a variety of contexts & tasks, multimedia components, visual displays
